If Anna Bananas were located closer to my home, I would spend a lot of my free time hanging out here. But then again, it wouldn't have the same charm if it were located in Tanasbourne.
Anna Bananas is conveniently located near the NW 21st and Northrup streetcar station. While out running errands this morning I decided to stop here for something to drink. When I entered the place seemed quiet except for a few people who were leaving. It appeared that the owner's daughters were in charge. One was clearing tables and one was playing barista. Nice to see the whole family involved in a business.
The girl playing barista was courteous and answered my questions nicely. I ordered a large chai. When it was ready she offered to remake it if I didn't like it. She told me that someone had recently asked her to remake a drink three times. But it tasted fine so her skills must be improving
There was nice contemporary music playing and interesting art work everywhere you look. Since Anna Bananas is located in part of a huge old house, there are lots of different areas to sit and relax.
Next time I visit I plan to try something from their food menu. There is a separate vegan menu as well as the standard offerings. When you're in the area this is a great place to visit. -

The coffee was extremely mediocre, especially for such a coffee-focused city. I got the South of the Border scramble, and it wasn't really a scramble, and was overpriced for what it was. The peppers weren't cooked into the egg and it was just scrambled eggs with some raw veggies and a bagel. Not much flavor either. I could make a much better scramble at home.
The service was really strange. It took a long time for our food to come, and one of the servers or the owner made some weird comments about my friend's dairy allergy and some other things. He was probably just trying to be friendly, but it came off as a little weird.
My napkin was also dirty, which was kind of worrying.
Overall, there are so many better breakfast/brunch/coffee places nearby. -

I have been in here as a delivery driver and as a customer. They are extremely hard working and friendly people. I was in here on a particularly busy Sunday morning while they were slammed with orders and concerned about getting poor reviews for taking so long on food. I wanted to leave a positive review to encourage the staff to keep up the hard work, you all maintained a friendly and bright demeanor despite being buried. You are awesome!!!

Most of these stars are for the novelty and spirit of the place. Super interesting interior, where we were trapped in the mostly quiet back room with a woman discussing her agony over her cheating husband and her pet pig's weight gain, and her friend's engaging definition of loneliness as being a baby without identity, totally unable to make our own conversation under the weight of the topics being discussed. Still. Very interesting. Prepare to feel like you're in someone's home.
Food: we got the Indonesian scramble (sounds far more interesting than it is - basically just some sauce thrown into an otherwise plain scramble) and the south of the border. The eggs were steamed and the spinach raw, which, while making us feel very healthy, were also on the lighter side. Everything bagel is pretty good.
The general vine I got was that this felt like the caliber of food I could make at home. Dead simple. -
